"I will not allow my predispositions to stand in the way of making sure that our kids can learn," Mr. Obama, who has previously said he opposes vouchers, said in a meeting with the editorial board of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "We're losing several generations of kids, and something has to be done."
I can't agree more with his last statement. There is obviously something wrong with the education system, and it's the teacher's unions that are opposed to any change to that system. Obama's campaign later repudiated that statement, however, saying that Obama "has always been a critic of vouchers" and that throughout his career he had "voted against voucher proposals." Sigh. Looks like Bruce Bartlett was misleading in his New Republic piece.
